Hopton Care Cottages residential care home has been designed and developed by Thomas Owen Care Ltd which is a family run business started by Kevin Martin a general and mental health nurse. He opened his first care home in 1989; Thomas Owen House at Dewsbury where he used his many years of practical experience to create improved quality of life and standards of care for people with severe and enduring mental and physical illness.

Since then he has purchased two other homes, Burking Banks in Dewsbury in 1995 and the Radcliffe in Mirfield, Wakefield in 2000. Both homes provide excellent standards of care to older people with care needs including dementia related illness.

In 2001 Joseph Martin joined the family business and is proud to say he has worked in every position in a care home from gardener to manager via cook. Apparently, his shortbread is still remembered today!  He now works as operations manager for the group of homes helping to ensure the highest standards of service and living environments are maintained.

In 2008 they decided to build a specially designed luxury care home and so set up their own building company with Ashley Goodes, an expert builder with 15 years’ experience. The company is called Ashmartin Construction and completed a number of projects before Hopton Care Cottages build got underway. 

Since 1989 the family business has always been proud to employ local people to look after their residents and local firms to supply to them. They have continued this with Ashmartin Construction which has created 30 new jobs for people from Dewsbury, Mirfield and Huddersfield since 2008 and has almost exclusively used local suppliers and trades.
